The Outback Sprints
Day 1, Saturday October 1st, is the “Outback Sprints” held at the brand-new Barcaldine Rec Park. The racing is over 1000m and will be Henley-style side by side, two boats at a time.
The Outback Sprints Regatta starts with a time trial allowing crews to put down a seeding time for the 2 main events.
Event 1 is the “The Outback Duel” where crews will be seeded, from the time trial, using masters handicaps with the two fastest crews racing for the cup.
Event 2 is “The Outback Gift” using a Stawell Gift style handicap system with a knockout progression. Handicaps are based on the average actual time of the previous two races (no age handicap). There will be penalties for exceeding handicap times and wildcard opportunities to reenter the event. All crews will get at least two races.
