Event information

This event has passed.

For those venturing by road to Barcaldine and Longreach, you are welcome to join the Outback Convoy taking the boats to the regatta from Brisbane and enjoy some sights and rows along the way. The convoy departs Brisbane at 5 am Thursday 29th September and stops for rows at Chinchilla and Emerald.

Thursday

We will retrace some of the route of the Vikings 6 Rivers Tour, journeying first to Toowoomba to have Breakfast at The Royal Hotel, hosted by Viking member Andrew Griffiths. Enjoy a cooked breaky before driving to Chinchilla Weir (ETA 11 am) for a row. Two VIIIs only will be unloaded and joined together by convoy members, so those who would like a row can enjoy the mighty Condamine River.

Lunch is at Chinchilla and then the convoy will continue to Miles Historical Village Museum (30 mins) where convoy members can peel off for a look at one of Australia's best inland museums.

The trailers will keep moving to arrive in Emerald for the night (ETA 5 pm). Travelers will need to book Thursday night there. A Convoy dinner is planned at a local pub.

Friday

The next morning the convoy will stop and row on Fairbairn Dam outside Emerald on the Ngoa River (ETA 10 am). The Fairbairn is the size of two Sydney Harbours when full and is home to one of Australia's richest inland irrigation schemes as well as providing water to surrounding coal mines.  Two boats will be joined to allow a mix of rowers to have a row before packing up (ETD 11:30 am). Lunch is in Emerald or at the dam.

The Convoy then departs for Barcaldine arriving mid-afternoon. Those staying Friday night in Barcaldine can join our Outback Rowing host team for dinner with town and district welcome.

Convoy travelers with bookings at the Outback Hub in Longreach can head on one hour further to Longreach. A welcome dinner will be hosted in Longreach by the local Outback Rowing hosts.

For the rowers coming from Central and North Queensland, we would love to meet you at Fairbairn Dam for a paddle.

If you are keen to tag along please email the Outback Rowing team.
